What a crabby little twit!

Well it's been a few days since I've posted anything so I thought I would blog an update. Nert is getting weirder and weirder every day. Last night, Scott came over for awhile, and he & John were playing around with the Wii, and she was hiding under the dresser. (See pic on Facebook :) )... Well Scott was kinda grabbing her tail, and I asked him to stop, because I'm starting to pick up on her tolerance levels, and she's not tolerating a whole lot these days. Well she started swatting at him a few times, and he stopped finally, she calmed down for a brief period. Then after the guys left, she plopped herself right in the middle of the bed, and was glaring at me for awhile. I prolonged getting into bed because for one, she HATES it when I try to pick her up, I never manage to succeed in doing so, she arches and freezes, but John has no problem. I did manage to get into bed after awhile and try to squiggle around her which was a chore for about an hour or so. Sometime later she clung to my back and overheated it the rest of the night. This morning, she was not purring at me much, by the time I actually got up, she was already on the windowsill staring out at the sunshine. (YES! A DRUY, seemingly CLOUDLESS DAY!) Well I was in the bathroom getting dressed, had music on, and I heard a loud thump, almost sounded like a crash. I opened the door to hear Nert howling and crying. I approached her slowly, did not want to touch her, if I barely even attempt it when she's in a mood, I get swiped at or nipped on, I have a few holes, but fortunately no blood has been drawn as of yet. So later John came by for a few, before running off to a meeting. She was very good with John, and we were both petting and talking to her. She turned around, tried to swipe and bite me, so I figured I had enough... I managed to kick her out of the bedroom, and tried giving her a stern lecture. I have been very good about not using the squirt bottle as of yet, I don't want her to retaliate, if that would be possible, but I think it's time. I think the reason that things were so much easier with Remi, the previous cat, was because he was sick pretty much the 2 of the 4 weeks that we had him before we had to put him to sleep. He tolerated a lot, was very lethargic, easy to pet, not very active. I think Scott and John are right, Inertia may be picking up on my tentativeness. I have to admit, as of tomorrow, we will have had her for a month, and I'm still skittish around her, only because I do not take too well to being swiped or nipped at. I just am trying to do the right thing. I think another thing to is that she misses the dog she was living with when Kim had her, and they played together, sorry, but no doggie here. It just irks me that I can't easily pick up on body language of the cat. I've skimmed the book a little, and with my vision, I honestly can't tell which "look" she is trying to portray at times. There is a segment in the book on body language with illustrations that I'm not picking up on. I think she's just frustrated because she's in a new environment, is doing a lot of window sill hopping.. (Kin lived in an apartment with not many windowsills, but rather, screen doors. When she was looking out the window earlier, she definitely left a few clawmarks. I've been meaning to get a head start on cleaning the windows when I knew for sure the rain would be over for awhile, might wait for awhile yet. I try to play with her with a laser light, that only lasts so long. She has her toys here and there, she loses interest easily. She really likes playing tug o war with the fishing rod teaser toy, but half the time she is able to yank it out of my hands, at that point I giv eup cuz she already seems mad. I'm going to see if it would be possible to wean her off of sleeping with me and on her tree which she hasn't touched much in the last few days. Sometimes she bites me when I'm trying to get into bed, and out of bed and I really don't like it. Any suggestions would be very helpful, remember this is my second cat ever, and I didn't have enough experience with the first one. I have to admit, we bought the Cats for dummies when we had Remi, but since she was sick and not doing much I didn't do a lot of reading or worrying. But I think Nert is turning into a mini monster towards me. :(

NERT ALERT!

There's really not much to say ~ a couple of people asked if there have been any updates that they've been missing. I checked with Kim on Nert's behavior and her weirdness and she's normal. She gets whiney and has a crackly snobbish meow a lot but that's too be expected, i.e., she's WEIRD! LOL! Bought her a couple new toys, she loses her interest in about 30 seconds... but she has the most fun with the fishing rod cat teaser thingie, she jumps pretty well in the air. In fact, earlier, it was dangling off the side of the kitchen counter and she was trying to climb the side of the counter to get to it. :) I crumpled up a little foil ball, she drags that round from time to time. I took ALL her toys out, once in awhile she bats a couple of them around but again loses interest rather quickly. :-/ I wish I could figure out how to get her weighed.. there's a portion of the wii fit plus where U can weigh your pets, but she doesn't even like to be picked up, sooo that won't work very easily. She is getting better at letting me have my spot in bed... this morning, she curled up right in the very spot where my right ribs were hurting, I'm sure she was sensing pain.. have had rib pain for a couple of days (long story), sometimes when she pounces on them and kneads them it doesn't help. Last night I was wiggling around trying to get comfy under the covers and she tried to bite my arm from outside of the covers. I know it was probably in play but it was a LITTLE too hard although the marks & pain weren't there this morning. I love it when cats get into mischief then they purr at you and knead you to a pulp the next morning like nothing ever happened. Today she climbed up on the cabinet in the "dining nook", so she slid herself between the top and bottom, John had to pull her out.. of course my making noises and yelling at her didn't help. :-/ But she didn't stay mad at me for long. Sometimes however when I go to pet her, she starts running from me. Bad cat owner?!?? Stay tuned to see what lies ahead. :)

Short update on Nert

Nert has been pretty bouncy the last couple of days, however prissy. When I go to pet her or play with her, a lot of times she snubs me and walks away.. sometimes I can't even brush her hair without her getting fussy but when it's bedtime that's a whole different story. She loves sleeping on the bed, and hogging it! I was hoping to at least train her to sleep at the foot of the bed where Remi slept, but no go. And of course she wakes me up slightly earlier before I'm ready to get up, but she is purring a lot of the time. I kinda wish I could get her to sleep in her tree, but I'll let her do what she's going to do as long as she's being good, she hasn't gotten herself into TOO much trouble so far. She has only gotten on the one couch we don't want her on, once or twice, I have not even had to use a spray bottle, all I've had to do was firmly say "Off" or "Down" and she goes flying with this look of, "Oh geez, I'm in trouble now!" The only thing is her purr sounds a little broken or scratchy, but she's eating & drinking pretty well. I wish I had a video camera, she seems to have fun with the laser pointer going in nonstop circles! Have not taken any more pictures, when I do I will upload them. Oh yeah, PS, I wonder if our purchasing the Wii yesterday has anything to do with her attitude. Ya think? LOL... *Sigh*

Our new cat!

As most, if not of all of you know, John and I have acquired another cat into our lives. We had been trying to figure when the right time would be; I was in Florida for 10 days just before Christmas, and we had agreed that wouldn't be the best time to introduce a pet into a new environment. I received a message from a friend stating that a mutual friend had been offered a job, wich would require her to relocate. She did not want to take her cat, and both friends thought of John and me! I was a little nervous at first, but on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, we went to have a "Meet and Greet" session. She seemed to take to us right away with no problem, and we picked her up on New Years Eve, and spent the evening at home with a few friends. Of course she was a little shy, getting used to new people and surroundings and loud noises, but she's doing just fine. I was a little nervous all over again with the first night, and I got maybe an hour or two of sleep. Last night, being the second night of her new home, went much better. Kim had given us all of her toys, her cat tree, etc so I'm sure that helped with the transition. Oh! By the way, her name is Inertia, or "Nert", but she doesn't live up to her name, she seems to be quite bouncy! :) Among the purchases we made today (a couple new toys, and a water dish), we bought a collar with a bell. Her other one doesn't have a bell and she had made me jump anytime she would jump on the bed and I wouldn't realize she was in the room! She is a cute 3 year old, bouncy little thing, I think things will work out pretty well. :) We hope she lives a long and healthy life. Stay tuned for future posts! Thanks for reading! :) Feel free to "Follow" me, so you can easily track the blog. :) PS, check my other post please, if anyone knows how I can put that cute big eyed cat graphic into my template let me know, thanks!
